How charges work

A charge is an amount a member owes, and the basic unit of money in BuPay. Charges start as pending, are bundled into an invoice when the member pays, and become paid once payment is confirmed.

  • Charge status

A charge moves through three states.

    • Pending: created, not yet paid
    • Invoiced: bundled into an invoice at checkout
    • Paid: payment confirmed
    Refunds & voids
  • Game charges come from games

Create them in the wizard's Fees step (before Confirm, shown only when a fee is set), or with "Add Charges" in the Payments section of the game page. When the club doesn't use per-game fees, the wizard shows no fee. Guest payment links for people outside the team are made in the same place.

    Guest payments
  • Other charges go straight to members

Equipment and event charges are created by choosing members and an amount. Membership fees and entry fees are issued automatically from club settings, and premiums from the organisation's insurance settings.

    Charge types
  • Members hear straight away

Members are notified the way they chose (app push or email) and can pay from there.

  • Who isn't charged

Game charges skip members covered by a plan and managers the team keeps off payments. With attendance on, members who replied "Going" are already selected.
