Opponents and game requests

Opponents are BuPay teams or external teams. BuPay teams receive a game request and the game is confirmed when they accept. Games against external teams are confirmed at once.

  • Which teams you can pick

Teams in your organisation, and teams of the same sport in other organisations. Multi-sport organisations play other multi-sport organisations. Search suggestions appear from 2 characters.

  • What the other side sees

Teams in other organisations only see public details such as the team name, logo and club name. Members and payments are never shown.

  • Last played

The opponent list shows the date of your most recent game against each team.

  • External teams

Opponents who don't use BuPay. Saved to the club, any team in the club can pick them. The name is recorded on each game, so past games keep it even if the external team is deleted. Contact details are shown only to club and organisation admins.

  • Invite and merge

External teams with an email contact can be invited to BuPay. Once their team is linked, a club admin merges them: past games become games against that team, and upcoming ones are sent as game requests.

  • Game requests

A game stays requested until the other team accepts. The invitation link lasts a week and stops working once the request is accepted, declined or withdrawn.

  • Declining is final

The receiving team can decline a request, and a declined request can't be accepted later. The requesting team's game stays on its schedule so it can pick another opponent. An accepted game can be cancelled by either team.

  • Seeing requests you've received

Unanswered requests to the teams you manage in the organisation are gathered under "Needs attention" on the dashboard.

  • Opponents on repeating schedules

A repeating schedule with a match type creates each date with the opponent "TBD". Use "Set opponent" on the game page to request a team or pick an external team for that date. That date then leaves the series, so later bulk changes don't move it.
