System usage fee

Each payment carries a system usage fee that runs BuPay and covers payment processing. It's a percentage plus a fixed amount, and your organisation chooses who pays it.

  • Once per payment

    The fee is a percentage plus a fixed amount per payment (invoice). Stripe's processing fee is included, so there's nothing else on top.

  • Organisation pays, or members pay

    Chosen in the System usage fee step at the start of setup. The default is "Organization pays".

    • Organization pays: members pay only the charge amount, and the fee comes out of what the organisation receives. Members see "Paid by org"
    • Members pay: the fee is added on top when a member pays

  • Changeable until the first payment

    Change it on the Payments tab of organisation settings. After the first payment it's locked.

  • Bundling saves money

    The fixed part is charged per payment, so paying several charges on one invoice costs less in fees than paying them one by one.

  • Not refunded

    When a charge is refunded, the system usage fee isn't.

Yes. It's shown on the invite page and at checkout. When the organisation pays it, it shows "Paid by org".
