How your sport sets wording and opponents

Your organisation picks its sport once, in the setup wizard. The sport sets the words used across BuPay and whether games have an opponent.

  • Wording follows the sport

Sports fall into three formats, and the wording switches across the web app, mobile app and notification emails.

    • Versus (baseball, soccer, tennis, table tennis, multi-sport and more): club, team, game, player
    • Individual (athletics, golf): club, team, activity, member
    • Class (dance, yoga, swimming, gymnastics, bouldering, boxing and more): club, class, session, member
    • Dojos within the class format (karate, judo, kendo): club, class, practice, member
  • A guide for each format

The getting started guides are split by format. The team sports guide was captured in a baseball organisation.

  • Opponents follow the sport too

In the versus format you choose an opponent when creating a game. The individual and class formats have no opponent, and only the non-game types (Practice, Lesson, Tournament, Camp, Event) plus your own types are available. There's no per-team or per-club switch.

    Types and defaults
  • Locked once saved

Nobody can change the sport after it's saved. Contact support if you need it changed.

  • Organisations without a sport

Organisations created before sports existed are treated as multi-sport (team-sport wording, with opponents). An organisation admin can set the sport once on the Sport tab of organisation settings.
