Connect payments with Stripe

Before your teams can collect money, connect your organisation to Stripe. BuPay uses Stripe to handle payments securely and pay your earnings out to your bank. You start in a BuPay wizard — business type and representative details — then finish identity and bank verification on Stripe. Once connected, your dashboard turns into an earnings, balance and payout overview.

   Open "Set up payments"

   From the dashboard setup, choose "Set up payments". Connecting Stripe is required to collect fees.

   Choose your business type

   Pick the entity that will collect the money: sole proprietor, company or non-profit. Each option shows roughly how long it takes.

   Unincorporated clubs and teams can't collect directly — the representative should register as a sole proprietor first (free, and doable online via e-Tax in Japan).

   See what you'll need

   Based on the type you chose, BuPay lists the documents and details Stripe will ask for. Have them to hand before continuing.

   Enter the representative's name

   Enter the name of the person receiving payouts, plus its kana reading. It must match the bank account holder.

   Add contact details and date of birth

   Enter an email, phone number and date of birth. These are passed to Stripe for identity verification; BuPay doesn't store them.

   Review and accept the terms

   Check everything in one place. Using payments requires agreeing that BuPay (and Stripe) collect members' payments on your behalf.

   Verify on Stripe

   Accept the terms and press "Continue with Stripe" to move to Stripe's secure page. Once identity verification and bank details are done, you're returned to BuPay automatically.

   Connected

   Once connected, the dashboard switches to your organisation overview — earnings, balance and payouts — and your teams can start collecting.
